Aport’s ability to deliver high level project management and delivery of laboratory relocation services anywhere in the world was demonstrated with a recent relocation of a major laboratory based in Abu Dhabi.
Aport was contracted by a third party to manage the entirety of the relocation which included a large volume of high level instrumentation, temperature controlled materials chemicals and engineering departments.
The project was commissioned by an organisation run by the government of Abu Dhabi and was incredibly high profile, it required the management of a number of agencies and third parties along with a high number of physical resources on the ground. There were many challenges that needed to be faced including the structure and quality of the local workforce, the relocation of a large number of delicate instrumentation in a very dusty external environment and the temperature control of chilled and frozen cold chain materials in extreme summer ambient temperature challenges. Local regulations in regard to the handling and transportation of hazardous chemicals by road also needed to be considered with sometimes very vague and unclear regulations.
Aport posted an experienced project manager and multiple crew members in Abu Dhabi who led the project team in relation to the phasing of the relocation and who ensured that the quality standards of aport were met and followed for every movement including the handling, packaging, transportation and unpacking of all materials point to point.
Bespoke crates for all of the instruments were built on-site with the aport crew members leading the 100 or so packing and transport teams that operated 24hrs a day, packing and handling all materials through the day along with placement and unpacking and transporting from the old location to new location through the night.
The project was a great success being completed on time and under budget to the required relocation phases agreed by the customer.
